Miniature Goniometer Stage

Miniature goniometer stage completes ceramic motor driven micropositioning range

Complementing and completing Nanomotion’s range of ceramic motor driven miniature positioning stages, the new FBG series goniometer is available in four stack sizes that combine to provide a common pivoting point for a two-axis tip/tilt angular motion set-up with a positioning resolution as low as 1 arc second. Available from Heason Technology, the low profile stages provide pivot axis radii of 71, 96, 102 and 137 mm.

As with the FB series linear stages, the FBZ vertical wedge stage, and the FBR rotary stage, the new FBG  goniometer features Nanomotion’s HR series high force ceramic motors with non-contact optical encoders and precision cross roller bearings. With the encoders and bearings in a precise curved design that follows the travel profile, the goniometer stage provides a wide dynamic speed range with very high acceleration characteristics, exceptional smoothness with high stiffness, zero backlash, and an excellent load carrying capacity.

The entire Nanomotion stage range can be assembled to provide multi-axis automated micropositioning covering all six degrees of freedom and prepared for standard, vacuum and UHV environments.

Perfectly suited to miniature space saving, ultra-clean and vacuum environments such as those found in semiconductor, biomedical and photonics automation systems, Nanomotion’s  compact ceramic motor technology has no intrinsic magnetic field or wear-prone moving parts, and provides an inherent braking and holding capability with a dynamic performance that benefits from extremely fast settling times and optimum in-position stability. The well proven technology provides maximum throughput rates for today’s most challenging micropositioning applications in both industry and research.

These compact goniometers can be driven and controlled with Nanomotion’s AB and Flex series controller/drives. Heason Technology also offers other ceramic motor compatible drives together with a complete range of motion controllers for linear and rotary micropositioning.

Miniature Rotary Motor

Heason ‘s latest miniature rotary motor has all the advantages of Nanomotion’s ceramic motor technology

New ceramic rotary servo motor provides backlash and hysteresis free micropositioning for stability critical applications.

Heason Technology has launched a new 15 mm diameter miniature precision rotary servo motor from Nanomotion as a direct-drive solution that features the unique operating characteristics of the ceramic motor specialists technology – providing inherent braking and the ability to eliminate servo dither when in a static position – even under power-off conditions.

The ER15 rotary piezo motor incorporates four tiny Edge ceramic linear motor elements in a backlash and hysteresis free arrangement that suits space restricted rotary motion applications where position stability and the ability to hold position without requiring a gearbox is a critical factor. Nanomotion’s Edge ceramic motor is in itself a marvel in miniaturisation and is reckoned to be the smallest industrial piezo motor of its kind in the marketplace today.

Aimed at autofocus/zoom modules, shutter/aperture controls, filter changers and pan and tilt modules, the ER-15 produces up to 10 mNm output torque. At around 22 mm in length the 15 mm diameter motor is smaller than comparably rated conventional precision DC brushed and brushless motors – and when taking into account the possible increased length of a gearbox on such motors, is a much better space-saving solution.

The ER 15 is available with the miniature board-based XCD drive and servo control but can be driven with conventional drives if required. There is provision for an optional rotary encoder mounted at the rear or the motor or servo feedback can be supported by an externally mounted linear or rotary encoder.

Movopart Linear Actuator

The Thomson Tollo Movopart linear actuator provides guided linear motion using either a ball screw or belt drive and a saddle that rides along the top of the actuator to carry the load.

The housing protects the ball screw or belt from contamination and reduces maintenance requirements. These actuators are ideal for industrial or material handling applications because of the high speed and long stroke length capabilities.

Drive Technology

Ball Screw driven units are designed for high load, high thrust, stiffness and tight precision in high-load, moderate-speed applications.

Belt driven units are chosen when acceleration and speed are the most important criteria. High speed up to 10m/s, high acceleration up to 40m/s/s and low noise.

Guide Technology

Ball guide: up to 38kN, low friction, high stiffness, comes in two design variations. The first features outstanding load-carrying performance, high accuracy and longer life expectancy. The second is based on a commercial style of ball guide, offering smooth and quiet travel with the highest precision.

Slide guide/Prism guide: The unique self-aligning prism guide design uses prism-shaped polymer bushings running directly on the anodized profile surface. The prism guides offers a cost efficient, smooth, reliable and maintenance-free guided linear motion system.

Megaflux Series

Using over a decade’s worth of brushless motor design experience, the Megaflux Series of thin ring torque motors resulting in a high performance, attractively priced solution for driving large inertia or high torque load systems.

Megaflux motors have been engineered to provide very high output torques while moderating the parasitic condition of cogging torque. Cogging torque is created by the attraction of the permanent magnet rotor poles to the steel stator poles and creates a fluctuating drag torque that is undesirable in precision closed loop control systems.

The mechanical form factor of Megaflux motors, a thin annular ring with a large diameter to length ratio, allows the motor to be wrapped around a driven shaft. The direct connection of the motor to the load effectively eliminates problems of torsional resonances due to couplings and the backlash associated with gear driven systems. Direct integration also results in minimal mechanical size.

A series of through holes have been incorporated into the Megaflux stator design to provide a rugged, simple, and low cost method of mounting the stator. Using the load’s bearing system, the need for separate end-caps has been removed. Similarly, the rotor features a series of holes to allow mounting directly to the load shaft.
